BIS AGH editorial office work support system design
Conceptual Implementation time: July 2021 Independent project (bachelor's thesis)
The AGH Student News Bulletin is an editorial board operating within the AGH Media Center student organization. The scope of its activities includes: - periodic publication of the magazine (quarterly) in electronic form and printed form, - publication of independent articles on the website, - creation of a podcast.
The goal of the project was to create a web application capable of replacing all existing communication channels and platforms for editorial work. The creation of the project was inspired by the difficulties in carrying out the tasks of the editorial office related to, among other things: - the large number of communication and work platforms used, - the lack of a common platform for organizing work and coordinating the implemented processes, - the dispersion of key information, resulting in numerous duplications.
In the research process: - all platforms for communication and work in the editorial office were identified and their functions were recorded, - interviews were conducted with members of the editorial office and managers to explore the processes taking place in the editorial office.
In the design process: - the key processes for editorial operations were modeled using BPMN notation and pain points were identified, - the application's information architecture was designed.
The project resulted in a mid-fidelity prototype of a user panel corresponding to each role in the organization (administrator, member of each department or intern).
One of the key screens was a dasboard in the view of a regular member and an administrator allowing to view the progress of the current quarterly.
In the previously functioning system of organizing work in the editorial office, such control of the process was not possible due to the excessive dispersion of information.
